The word of the week is... SPOT

BB's new word this week is spot. He says it a lot because he has a lot! He has also pointed at marks on my body and said spot. I am fairly sure that he is going to point out other people's spots to them just as soon as we get out of quarantine.

I am not 100% sure what is wrong with him. I think it is almost certain that he has Hand Foot and Mouth Disease as he does now have little spots on his feet and hands, and he did have a couple on his tongue too, and around his mouth. But he also has them all over his body. Some of them are much bigger, and blistery and look like chicken pox, though there's not so many of that kind (maybe 30). The pharmacist who sold us out camomile cream did actually say it could be both. Both are going round at his nursery, so I guess this is technically possible.

He is OK though, maybe a little bit more clingy than usual, and perhaps eating a little less than usual, but still quite happy, running around, playing games and being a cheeky little  monkey.

Being housebound I had to think especially hard about things to do. We were going to go to a nearby wood where you never bump into anyone, but it was too windy. So we have cooked together, painted together, hung the washing out together (that was a massive challenge in the wind - BB didn't know wether to laugh or cry when things were blowing all over - it dried quickly though. It was actually great fun.

I hope tomorrow we can go to the wood though. Whatever it is, apparently we should not mix with other people for 7 days after the spots start appearing. Some are fading, but there are still new ones coming... we will certainly have cabin fever in 7 days time!

I have been quite focussed on eating well. I did split the blog so that what I was eating went elsewhere, and have had an unexpected number of people tell me that they like my food posts after all... Ah well. it's done now, I think it will be better in the long run. So, if you are interested I have just finished day 3 of the Whole30 and am really loving it so far. I have eaten some great food. Here's what I had today.

Pork Bolognese and salad

Salmon with roasted cauliflower and beans

Chicken cooked with coconut oil, orange and tarragon

BB has enjoyed helping out in the kitchen as usual.

In some ways being home has been good for getting me started on this. It might be more tricky when we are out doing our normal activities and have less time to think about food.

BB has surprised me with what he has eaten. Each meal time I think about what he is going to have too. Obviously I am not going to subject him to the diet, so when I made bolognese with wheat free pasta he had normal pasta, and cheese. Today I thought about giving him fish fingers when I had the salmon, but I really want to be sure that his nutrition doesn't suffer as a result of me eating different foods, so I am letting him try my food and then have additional things (like dairy and grains!) with a back up plan if he doesn't like it. So far so good. He really liked roast cauliflower (perhaps because he had a hand in cooking it) and ate some salmon too.

  2. Glad he's not feeling too awful with whatever he has. Hope it's better soon! And I hope you two don't go stir crazy.

Love that he's trying new foods as you work on changing your diet.

  3. I think it was HFMD. It's gone now. And not so much trying new foods, he has had them all before, but not been keen. The trick I have discovered is that it's nicer if it's Mummy's!
