Make your own Play Dough

We made our first batch of Play Dough this weekend.  I have made it before, years ago, in a lab at school for something the students were doing, I can't remember what, but this was my first time in my own kitchen.

It was even easier than I thought (though stirring made my arm ache!). Credits for the recipe go to Yackandandah Kindergarten, as I used the one in their  2011 Cookbook which I was given for Christmas last year.

Ingredients

2 cups plain flour
4 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 cup salt
2 cups water
Food Colouring

Method

Mix all ingredients in a large saucepan and stir over a medium heat until the mixture congeals.

The recipe suggested that you wait until its finished and then split into smaller portions and add colour, but I added the colour earlier, so that it mixed in easier. It means we only have one colour but that's just fine - we'll use a different colour next time!

  1. In my experience with small children there's no point in making more than one colour, it all ends up brown anyway.
